The Overcomers’ Testimonies “In the Devil’s Dark Prison, I Was Accompanied by God’s Love”

I’m a Christian in the Church of Almighty God. I’ve followed Almighty God for more than ten years. In the years of my following God, what is the most unforgettable is the great tribulation of my being arrested by the vicious police of the CCP ten years ago. In that tribulation, I was greatly afflicted and trampled by the devils and my life was at stake and death was imminent many times, but Almighty God led and kept me with his mighty hand, so that I was brought back to life and got safely out of danger…. It made me truly taste the supernaturalness and greatness of God’s life power and gain the precious wealth of life God bestowed to me.

It was January 23, 2004 (Lunar January 2). A sister in the church badly needed help because of difficulty in life, so I must go and visit her. As the journey was long, I had to get up early or I couldn’t make a round trip. When it was just dawning, I went out. The pedestrians on the road were very few and there were only cleaners sweeping the garbage on the street. I was anxious, but no taxi could be seen in the street. So I walked to a stop at the roadside waiting for one. Seeing a car coming from afar, I went up and stopped it. Unexpectedly, it was a car from the Environmental Protection Bureau. The men in the car asked me what I stopped the car for. I said, “Sorry, I made a mistake.” They said, “We suspect you are one posting up illegal ads.” I asked, “Did you see that? Where’re the illegal ads I posted up?” Without allowing me to explain, the three of them rushed forward and forcibly searched my handbag. They took out everything including a copy of an article of fellowship and preaching, a notebook, a purse with cash in it, a mobile phone, a pager out of service, and so on, looking for the illegal ads. Then, they took the article of fellowship and preaching and the notebook and looked through them carefully. Seeing no illegal ads in my handbag, they held the article of fellowship and preaching and said to me, “You aren’t one posting up illegal ads, but you’re a believer in Almighty God.” Then, they phoned the National Security Team specially taking charge of religion. After a short time, four men from the National Security Team came. Seeing the things in my handbag, they immediately knew that I was a believer in Almighty God. Before I could explain, they stuffed me into the car and then locked the doors, for fear that I might jump off the car to escape.

After we got to the Public Security Bureau, the policemen took me into a room. One of them fiddled with the pager and the mobile phone searched out, wanting to get a clue from them. When he turned on the phone, it showed a low battery and then the battery went dead. He couldn’t turn it on anyway. So, he held the phone in hand anxiously. I also felt much puzzled: The phone has just been fully charged this morning; how come the battery is dead now? Suddenly, I realized that God was manipulating everything miraculously to stop the policeman from getting information about other brothers and sisters. At the same time, I understood God’s words, “anything, living or dead, will move, change, renew, and disappear according to God’s thoughts. This is the way God rules over all things.” (from “God Is the Source of Man’s Life” in The Word Appears in the Flesh) I had some true knowledge about God’s ruling over and manipulating everything and had more faith in the following cooperation. Then, pointing at the things in my handbag, a vicious policeman asked me harshly, “Judging from your things, you’re not an ordinary believer. You must be a leader, a senior leader, for a junior leader doesn’t have a pager or a cell phone. Am I right?” I answered, “I don’t understand what you are saying.” He roared, “You’re pretending not to understand!” And he ordered me to speak while squatting. Seeing that I didn’t confess to what they said, they gathered around and punched and kicked me to hell. I was beaten black and blue, aching unbearably all over, and then collapsed on the floor. I was very indignant and very much wanted to reason and argue with them, “What law have I broken? Why do you beat me like this?” But then I thought that I had no way to reason with them, because the CCP government was simply unreasonable. I was at a loss, but I was unwilling to endure such cruel beating. Just when I was confused, I suddenly had a thought, “Since the CCP vicious policemen don’t listen to reason or allow me to speak sensible words, it’s unnecessary for me to speak anything to them. I’d better keep silent. Thus, they can’t do anything to me.” Thinking of that, I no longer responded to their questions. Continue reading

Seek and You Shall Find

I was born into an ordinary peasant family. I believed in the Lord Jesus because of illness at the age of 49. As I read in the Bible that the Lord could make the dumb speak and the paralytic walkpray, I often prayed to Him and asked Him to heal my illness. Unknowingly, my heart disease was healed, and I was getting stronger by the day. I thought, “So many people have spent a lot of money on their heart disease but to no avail. Mine is healed thanks to the power of the Lord. I must follow Him firmly.” At that time, I had a great faith. Unable to afford the carfares, I, together with several sisters, got up early and walked to meeting places, and I was never absent regardless of wind or rain. When I had time, I also went out to preach the gospel to repay the Lord’s love for me.

Several years passed in a flash. Then, gradually I found that every time we came to the meetings, Brother Shi, the preacher of our church, always gave us messages on Genesis. He preached repeatedly on what God made on the first day, on the second day … on the sixth day. In the afternoon, the elder would teach us to recite the Bible verses. He also asked us to recite some verses at home. He said that only by doing so could we remember the words of the Lord and have eternal life. After returning home, I recited the verses every day. Sometimes for fear of failing to recite them in the next meeting, I even wrote them on my hands to have a look at them at times of forgetting. However, I still failed to recite them when the elder asked me to do so in the meetings. The other brothers and sisters were the same with me. As time went on, we believers began to feel bored and said it was useless and very tiring to recite the Bible verses. Everyone complained. Once, in a meeting, Brother Shi walked onto the pulpit, and he started to preach on Genesis again. My heart sank at what he preached, and I thought, “Why can’t he preach something new? Every time I gain nothing after a whole day of meeting. I have left a pile of work undone at home and sometimes cannot cook in time for my husband. All I wish is to understand and gain something here, but I don’t gain anything.” As I thought of this, I really couldn’t bear it anymore. So I nerved myself to walk up to the pulpit and asked Brother Shi if he could preach something deeper. He said with his head down, “Auntie, to be honest, I can preach nothing more than this; otherwise, would I not have given a deeper preaching?” I felt so bad to hear his words, but I could do nothing other than go back to my seat. Thus, the meeting attendance gradually dropped off. Whenever I looked at the empty gathering place, I felt so awful. I came before the Lord and prayed tearfully, “O Lord! Why is the church like this now? Why have we completely lost our former enthusiasm? I don’t know where the brothers and sisters have gone. Besides, the preacher is unable to deliver good sermons. Have You forsaken us? O Lord! Where are You? Please guide me!” After the prayer, I suddenly remembered the hymn “Many Crowd the Savior’s Kingdom.” I thought, “Have those brothers and sisters who are absent from the meetings all entered the kingdom?” This thought made me somewhat anxious. So I began to ask where those brothers and sisters had gone, but nobody could give me the answer.

One day during a meeting, a young sister came to the gathering place, breathless, and she told the elder that her two elder sisters had accepted the “Eastern Lightning.” The elder was anxious at hearing it, and he said, “What? They have stolen all our good sheep. We must go to drag your sisters back!” With that he took Deacon Sun on his motorcycle and left. At the time of the next meeting, I came to the gathering place early. As I approached the gate, I saw both the elder and Deacon Sun sitting inside the gate with a book in their hands and reading it with interest. When I saw The Scroll Opened by the Lamb on the cover of the book held by Deacon Sun, I thought, “This book must have been taken from the two sisters who investigated the ‘Eastern Lightning.’ What is written in it?” Then I suddenly remembered what Revelation 5:1 said, “And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.” “Can this book be the one spoken of in Revelation? Doesn’t the Lamb refer to God? Only the Lamb is worthy to open the book. So, doesn’t this prove that the Lord has come back?” I thought. Then, I heard the elder say, “This book is so good. No wonder those who have read it are unwilling to come out of the ‘Eastern Lightning.’ Did you remember that those two sisters cried when we took the books away from them? No wonder they cried; no man is capable of speaking the words in this book. They are truly the words of God!” Deacon Sun said with a smile, “I have yet to finish it, but it is indeed a good book.” When I heard what they said, my heart leaped with excitement. “Has God really come? Will they lend this book to me?” As I thought of this, I heard the elder whisper to Deacon Sun, “We should hide these books. Don’t let the brothers and sisters see them. If they know this book is so good, they will all go to the Church of Almighty God. Won’t our church be finished then?” With that, they both closed the book and went into their rooms. At those words, my joyful heart sank in an instant, and I thought, “All is over. They will certainly not lend the book to me. Where can I get the book?” Then I thought, “After reading this book, they both said it was good and firmly believed that the words in it are the words of God, but they actually would not let the brothers and sisters know that. They even deceive us by saying that outside our church there are too many people preaching false ways, and forbid us to go out to seek the truth. Are they not hindering us from accepting the true way? Why are their hearts so malicious? Won’t I be ruined by them if I continue to stay here? No, I have to go out quickly to look for a copy of this book.” I came before the Lord and prayed to Him, “O Lord, I know You have come back, but I have no idea where You are now. My heart is longing desperately to receive life and Your provision, but the elder and the deacon of the church are so malicious that they won’t let us see that book. O Lord, Where can I find a copy of it? May You guide me.”

I went with an eager heart to a church by bus which I had previously known of, expecting to find the book there. I walked toward a sister and sat down beside her and asked, “Sister, have you ever seen a book named The Scroll Opened by the Lamb?” She took a look at me and said, “No, I haven’t. We all read the Bible.” I was very disappointed at her words. After I came back home, I thought, “This small place does not have the book. I will go to a big city to look for it.” Having made some inquiries, I learned that there was a big church in some city, so I went there by train. After getting off the train, I found the church through difficulty. There were more than one thousand people there. The scene was very impressive. Hurriedly, I squeezed myself on to a seat in the middle of a row, hoping to hear of the book there. The Church of Almighty GodHowever, I saw all the brothers and sisters take out a Bible from their bags. And also I didn’t hear the pastor preach anything new. So I left sadly. I got home, exhausted, and I knelt down and prayed to the Lord, “O Lord, how I long to find You! O Lord, where are You?” After the prayer, the words in Matthew 7:13-14 came into my mind: “Enter you in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads to life, and few there be that find it.” Therefore, I went to a house church called The Sanctified. In the meeting, many believers looked at me with a strange eye, guarding against me as if I were a bad person. At the time, I was very sad, and my tears of grievance began to pour down my face. When I listened to the message, I found it was the same as that in our church, which was also on some Bible verses. I felt especially disappointed then, thinking, “I have been to several churches but have not found the book.” Helplessly, I returned to my former denomination with my bag. However, I never forgot the book The Scroll Opened by the Lamb. I often prayed to the Lord, “O Lord, now I am thirsty and hungry. I only heard that You have returned. I have looked for You for over a month, but I haven’t found You. O Lord, where are You? …”

Over two months later, I dropped in on my sister-in-law. Hardly had I entered her house and sat down when a woman and three men came. To judge from their dress, they were quite decent and upright. My sister-in-law had a word with them in the outside room, and then she let them in. I hastened to invite them to be seated, and they nodded at me politely. Judging by their manners, they seemed to be believers in the Lord. So I asked, “I guess you are also believers in the Lord, right? What denomination are you from?” A man said, “Yes. We are from the Church of Almighty God.” When I heard the Church of Almighty God, I was so pleased, thinking, “Isn’t it the Church of Almighty God our elder and deacon spoke of?” The brother noticed my expression, and he continued, “The Lord Jesus has returned to flesh and done a new work. He works and speaks under the name of Almighty God, and He has expressed millions of words and disclosed all mysteries.” With that, he took a book out of his bag and gave it to me. I took it from him and found it was just the book The Scroll Opened by the Lamb that I had been earnestly looking for. I was so excited as to hold it to my chest and grin from ear to ear. I said to the brothers and sisters with emotion, “I have nearly broken my neck looking for this book. I have known for some time that the Lord has come back. The elder of our church already got a copy of this book. But he didn’t let the brothers and sisters read it for fear that they would all go to the Church of Almighty God once they read. So I had to search for it everywhere. Today I have finally found it! I am really grateful to the Lord!” At that moment, tears blurred my eyes, and all the brothers and sisters there were very delighted too. With tears in their eyes, they said, “Amen! God is faithful, for the Lord Jesus said, ‘Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you’ (Matthew 7:7).” Then, they testified to me the work of Almighty God—the returned Lord Jesus—in the last days. A young brother read me a passage of God’s word: “The work done at present has pushed forward the work of the Age of Grace; that is, the work in the entire six-thousand-year management plan has moved forward. Though the Age of Grace has ended, the work of God has progressed further. Why do I say time and again that this stage of work builds upon the Age of Grace and the Age of Law? This means that the work of this day is a continuation of the work done in the Age of Grace and an uplifting of that done in the Age of Law. The three stages are closely interconnected and linked one to the next. Why do I also say that this stage of work builds on that done by Jesus? If this stage did not build on the work done by Jesus, then in this stage the crucifixion, the work of redemption done previously, would still need to be carried out. This would be meaningless. Therefore, it is not that the work has completely finished, but that the age has moved forward, and the work has become even higher than before. It could be said that this stage of work is built on the foundation of the Age of Law and the rock of the work of Jesus. The work is built stage by stage, and this stage is not a new beginning. Only the combination of the three stages of work can be deemed the six-thousand-year management plan” (“The Two Incarnations Complete the Significance of the Incarnation” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). After the young brother finished reading these words, he fellowshiped, “Auntie, the three stages of God’s work are complementary and none of them is dispensable. They are imbued with God’s kind and thoughtful intentions….” He fellowshiped with me about the three stages of God’s work from beginning to end, including the work done by God and the names of God in the Age of Law, the Age of Grace, and the Age of Kingdom, and the significance of each stage of God’s work. His extremely clear fellowship was like a breath of fresh air to me. I thought, “What the elder of our church talks of is obsolete, which cannot supply our life at all, but what this young brother has fellowshiped is something new. It is so good and I have really received supply from him.” So I asked with a smile, “Brother, how many years have you believed in Almighty God? Why do you know so many things?” He replied sincerely, “I have just believed in Almighty God for two years, and I know all these from His words. If you read His words, you will know them too.” Then, they fellowshiped about many truths with me, allowing me to have more understanding of the three stages of God’s work, especially His work in the Age of Kingdom.

Almighty God's wordsBack home, I began to read the words of Almighty God voraciously. Almighty God says: “The first part of this book is the words of the Spirit to the churches. These words represent the transition from the end of the Age of Grace to the beginning of the Age of Kingdom, and are the Spirit’s public testimony of the Son of man to the churches. They are also fulfillment of the words in Revelation that ‘He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit said to the churches.’ This is the work that God began in the Age of Kingdom. The second part of this book is the words personally spoken by the Son of man after He officially revealed Himself. It includes a rich content of several types of utterances and words such as prophecy, the revelation of mysteries, and the way of life. There are predictions for the future of the kingdom, revelations of the mysteries of God’s management plan, dissections of the nature of man, exhortations and warnings, severe judgments, heartfelt words of consolation, talk of life, talk of entry, and so on. In short, what God has, what He is, and the disposition of God are all expressed in His work and words. Of course, when God becomes flesh this time, His work is to express His disposition, primarily through chastisement and judgment. Using this as the foundation, He brings more truth to man, shows more ways of practice, and so achieves His objective of conquering man and saving man from his corrupt disposition. This is what lies behind the work of God in the Age of Kingdom. Do you wish to enter the new age? Do you wish to rid yourself of corrupt disposition? Do you wish to obtain higher truth? Do you wish to see the true face of the Son of man? Do you wish to live a life that is worthwhile? Do you wish to be made perfect by God? Then, how will you welcome the return of Jesus?” (Preface to The Word Appears in the Flesh). After reading these words, I couldn’t help but utter praises from my heart: “The words in this book are truly the utterances of God Himself—this is absolutely right! Only God Himself is capable of expressing all these truths. God’s words are so tender that I feel as if I saw God’s face when reading them.” I was thankful to have found this book, and I read it every day and could hardly bear to tear myself away from it. In twenty one days, I read it through twice. Every word of God has touched my heart, nourished my spirit and quenched the thirst in it, and God’s words have also led me to keep up with His work of the last days. May all the glory be to Almighty God!

I Have Welcomed the Lord’s Second Coming

I Believed in the Lord Jesus Due to Illness

At the age of nine, I suffered from a strange disease suddenly. When it attacked me, I would vomit and have no strength all over, with a headache and stomach ache. It attacked me four or five times one week, and it was a sheer torture to me. My family took me to many hospitals for treatment, but none of the hospitals could find what disease I suffered from. So, my mother prayed to Bodhisattva and Buddha for help and took me to witch doctors. But all had no effect and my illness persisted. One day, my mother’s friend came to preach the Lord Jesus’ gospel, saying that He is the Redeemer of mankind and could heal my disease. After believing in Jesus, my mother led me to have meetings and make prayers. Contrary to all expectations, I was fully recovered three months later. At that point, in spite of not knowing what true belief in the Lord was, I knew that it was the Lord Jesus who healed me and I should rely on Him properly. Afterward, the pastor gave me a Bible. Every night, my father sat beside me and read the Bible for me. I was deeply attracted by the biblical stories. The Lord not only could heal the sick and drive out demons, but also could make the dead rise, allowing me to feel that the Lord possesses great power.

At the age of twelve, I began to attend adult Sunday worship. Seeing pastors give sermons to shepherd the church, I was very envious and wanted to be a pastor or a preacher to work for the Lord, preaching the Lord’s gospel, when I grew up. Despite knowing nothing of serving the Lord, I knew that the biblical knowledge was very important to believers in the Lord. Thus, I started to study the Bible. I read the whole Bible for several times.

My Hope to Serve the Lord Was Realized

At eighteen, I had gained some knowledge of the Bible and began to learn from Paul to serve for the Lord hard. I was a counselor of a Junior Youth Fellowship in a church and later became a preacher. At the beginning of the service, my heart brimmed with peace and joy and I really basked in it. I had great faith to spend for the Lord. When giving sermons, I spoke at great length. And I was doing gospel ministry work particularly well. I built mission stations with pastors, worked as a full-time co-worker in a big church, and established three small ministry teams. Back then, I served, gave sermons, preached the gospel, and visited brothers and sisters with our pastors in my hometown, with the result that many weak brothers and sisters were sustained and helped. During that period, I also wrote many courses of studying the Bible and of training small-team leaders, and sent some articles to the church literature service, sharing my own testimony and understanding of some verses, etc. It could be said that I was in the Holy Spirit’s stream and followed the Lord with great confidence.

The Church’s Desolation Punctured My Heart

As several years passed by, however, I couldn’t feel the work of the Holy Spirit and gradually lost my faith in service. So, I looked for the church with the work of the Holy Spirit everywhere. I attended the service of many other churches with my pastors in Evangelicals and Charismatics but didn’t yield great results. During the service, I saw that co-workers vied against each other, excluded and belittled each other, envied the good and able, had jealousy and strife, and even fabricated accusations to frame others. In one church I served, two pastors competed against each other for position and resulted in the separation of the church. Later, I went to another church, where the pastor was against two chairmen and they undermined and disagreed with each other. Feeling helpless, I had to choose to leave. Then, I was envied and framed by others in another church and underwent all sufferings and I could do nothing but go away. … Having experienced so many things, I saw that the church was completely ruled by man and that pastors and elders always restrained people in a condescending attitude, they didn’t talk about the truth, or something concerning knowing God, obeying God, or carrying out God’s will. When giving sermons in the gatherings, they didn’t focus on talking about how to practice the Lord’s words, follow God’s commandments, but speaking a lot about donation and grace. No matter in which church, I couldn’t feel the Holy Spirit’s work. So, I was overcome by feelings of depression and despair and had no way to go. Reluctantly, I stopped my service in the church and chose to read the Bible at home.

I Yearned for the Lord’s Coming in Distress and Sorrow

For a person like me, who pursued to serve God, it was very miserable not to sense God’s presence and find the direction and goal to go forward. The pain in my heart couldn’t be expressed in words. I often thought: Won’t I muddle along day by day like this? Won’t I maintain a living and wait for death in this way? How should I face the Lord’s return if I go on like this? In the midst of my pain, I prayed to the Lord, “O Lord! Where are You now? O Lord! I don’t know how to walk the way ahead. My heart is extremely distressed and sorrowful. O Lord! How I yearn for Your coming! How I yearn for the light appearing in the darkness! O Lord! May You guide me….” Every time when I made such a prayer, I would have a good cry. However, regardless of how I prayed, I still couldn’t feel the Lord’s presence. Afterward, I read many books that explain the Bible and surfed the Internet to study the materials of expounding the biblical prophecies. I also kept praying for the Holy Spirit to enlighten me to find the cause of the church’s desolation and the mystery of the Lord’s coming. But I failed to get the answers. As time went by, the pain in my heart worsened day after day, with confusion and hesitation. At last, I put my heart into studying and sharing the Bible with the friends from all nations and places on Facebook. Every day, I prayed and studied the Bible, hoping for the Lord’s second coming with my whole heart. I thought to myself: Perhaps everything will turn out for the good when the Lord comes.

I Heard About the Information of the Lord’s Coming for the First Time

In December of 2016, when I was studying the Bible on Facebook and browsing the page, I came to know Sister Zhang Hua. One day, she texted me and asked whether I wanted to study the Bible with her. I agreed immediately. Through Sister Zhang Hua’s introduction, I got acquainted with Sister Liu Yue and several other brothers and sisters. That day, we studied the biblical verses concerning the Lord’s coming. Sister Liu sent two verses in the chat box, “For as the lightning, that lightens out of the one part under heaven, shines to the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day. But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation” (Luke 17:24-25). And “For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even to the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be” (Matthew 24:27). Then, Sister Liu said, “When the Lord Jesus prophesied His coming, He always said ‘the coming of the Son of man.’ The Son of man is born to a human. Outwardly, He looks like a man, but He has normal humanity and complete divinity, and He is God Himself. That is to say, the Son of man means that God puts on the flesh and comes to the world. So, the coming of the Son of man indicates that the Lord will be incarnated when He comes, because God’s Spirit can’t be called the Son of man. This is the same as the Lord Jesus. He is the incarnate God and can be called the Son of man or Christ. But, in the Age of Law, Jehovah is a Spirit that is at work and so He can’t be called the Son of man. And there are also the words ‘But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.’ Only if God is incarnated and becomes the Son of man can He suffer and be rejected. If God’s Spirit came, there would be no such saying. Do you think my understanding is right?” I heard for the first time that these two verses were explained in this way. Although it was different from my viewpoint, I believed it was novel, unique and was based on the meaning of the verses. But I thought these verses referred to the Lord Jesus, not showing that the Lord would be incarnated when He came again. So, I said, “At the return of the Lord Jesus, He will come in the image of appearing to the disciples after His resurrection. Just as the Bible records ‘Which also said, You men of Galilee, why stand you gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven’ (Acts 1:11). The Lord Jesus left with a cloud. So, when He comes, He will appear to man upon a cloud with His former image. It should be a spiritual body.”

After hearing my vision, Sister Zhang said, “Brother, I have read two passages of words, which are very good. I’ll share with you. These words makes clear why God is incarnated. God comes to the world and takes the image of flesh completely for the sake of saving man. Man needs the salvation of the incarnate God. After you read these words, you’ll understand the significance of God’s incarnation. I’ll read them. Almighty God says, ‘God’s saving of man is not done directly through the means of the Spirit or as the Spirit, for His Spirit can neither be touched nor seen by man, and cannot be approached by man. If He tried to save man directly in the manner of the Spirit, man would be unable to receive His salvation. And if not for God putting on the outward form of a created man, they would be unable to receive this salvation. For man can in no way approach Him, much like how none could go near the cloud of Jehovah. Only by becoming a man of creation, that is, putting His word into the flesh He will become, can He personally work the word into all who follow Him. Only then can man hear for himself His word, see His word, and receive His word, then through this be fully saved. If God did not become flesh, no fleshly man would receive such great salvation, nor would a single man be saved. If the Spirit of God worked directly among man, man would be smitten or completely carried away captive by Satan because man is unable to associate with God’ (‘The Mystery of the Incarnation (4)’ in The Word Appears in the Flesh). ‘If God does not become flesh, He remains the Spirit both invisible and intangible to man. Man is a creature of flesh, and man and God belong to two different worlds and are different in nature. The Spirit of God is incompatible with man of flesh, and no relations can be established between them; moreover, man cannot become a spirit. As such, the Spirit of God must become one of the creatures and do His original work. God can both ascend to the highest place and humble Himself by becoming a man of creation, doing work and living among man, but man cannot ascend to the highest place and become a spirit and much less can he descend to the lowest place. Therefore, God must become flesh to carry out His work’ (‘The Mystery of the Incarnation (4)’ in The Word Appears in the Flesh).”

Reading these words and thinking about Sister Zhang’s knowledge of the Son of man, I felt what they said was very practical and that their fellowship was reasonable and made me feel God’s love and salvation to man. They were testifying to God. But I had a second thought: No matter what, I should be cautious and can’t casually accept the way which differs from my understanding. Anyway, I should seek to see whether it is from God. So, I promised that I would communicate and share with them the following night.

Satan Disturbs but God’s Word Comforts Me

Unexpectedly, on the next day, my son who was only one and a half months old, was feverish and hospitalized. The doctor said that there were viruses in his blood and he had to be cured immediately otherwise his life would be in peril. I was scared to death. At that point, I thought of Sister Zhang Hua and told her my son’s illness, asking her church to pray for my son. Later, Sister Zhang and Sister Liu both sent me the same passage of God’s words, “Almighty God is an almighty doctor! Living in illness, you are ill. Living in spirit, you will be fine. As long as you have one breath left, God will not let you die. … God’s word is a sovereign remedy! Shame the devils and Satan! Touch God’s word and we will have support. God’s word remedies our heart instantly! Nothing will go wrong and everything will go peaceful” (“The Sixth Utterance” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). Sister Zhang said, “Brother, this is God’s trial to you as well as Satan’s temptation. God wants to test your faith through it. We should, like Job, not utter complaints against God but stand firm in the testimony to God and glorify Him. Let’s pray to and depend on God with one heart and one mind so as not to fall into Satan’s trick.” With the sister’s help, I finally came to my senses: Actually, it is God’s trial. I should praise God and not complain about God as Job did when trials crop up. Regardless of how Satan attacks me, I’m willing to give my son’s life to the Lord and allow Him to reign, and I’m willing to obey His orchestration and arrangement.

Thanks be to God! The faraway care and encouragement warmed my heart. I felt Sister Zhang and Sister Liu have a loving heart and that their help and encouragement come from God’s teaching but not the flesh. I also saw the Lord’s wonderful arrangement. I had never thought that when I encountered difficulties, God would arrange two foreign sisters whom I had never met to comfort and encourage me, so that I would not fall prey to Satan’s trickery and stand the testimony for Him. I especially felt God’s dearness and loveliness. What’s more, out of my expectation, my son was cured and released from the hospital three days later. That was really God’s special protection! I offered a grateful prayer to God.

In the Second Fellowship, I Couldn’t Accept the Fact of the Lord’s Coming

On the next evening, the two sisters and I talked online and we had a most agreeable chat. Later, Sister Zhang said, “The Lord Jesus has come back. He has returned in the flesh, expressed millions of words with the name of Almighty God, and judged and purified man with His words, so that man can cast away their corrupt satanic disposition, be completely gained by God, and inherit God’s promise and enter God’s kingdom. It has been over twenty years since Almighty God began to work in 1991. God has made complete a group of overcomers in China. Today, Almighty God’s words have been put on the Internet publicly, attracting true believers in God and truth lovers all over the world to seek and investigate. …”

On hearing that, I was in great turmoil. I thought: When the Lord comes, He will come on a cloud and appear to us with His spiritual body. How could He possibly be incarnated and called Almighty God? But I suddenly thought of last Bible study. Sister Liu shared her knowledge of the prophecies of the Lord’s coming and Sister Zhang sent me two passages of words. They say the Lord is incarnated when He comes, and that it is man’s need and a salvation to man, which is not without reason. But the Bible clearly records, “this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven” (Act 1:11). How could this be explained? I felt very contradictory. I asked Sister Liu, “You said that the Lord has come through incarnation. I dare not judge and deny it at will. But the Bible clearly records, ‘this same Jesus … shall so come in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven.’ As the Lord Jesus has gone away with a cloud, He should come with a cloud. How do you think about it?”

Sister Liu said, “About the way of the Lord’s coming, we can’t only hold on to the prophecy of descending with a cloud, because there’re many other prophecies concerning the Lord’s coming again. For example, ‘Behold, I come as a thief’ (Revelation 16:15), ‘… for in such an hour as you think not the Son of man comes’ (Matthew 24:44), and ‘But of that day and that hour knows no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father’ (Mark 13:32). According to these prophecies, we can see that when the Lord comes, there will be two steps: secret advent and public descend. Mysteries are hidden in His coming in secret and in public. When the Lord comes back, He is incarnated and becomes the Son of man, descending in secret. When God works on earth, He mainly expresses words to judge and purify man and makes complete a group of overcomers before the great disasters. Those who can recognize God’s voice when hearing God’s word, and know that Almighty God is the incarnate Christ, the returned Lord Jesus, are ones God will purify and perfect during His work in secret. When this group of people are made complete, the Lord’s work of descending in secret will be accomplished. When this work concludes, God will appear to all nations and all peoples in public and reward the good and punish the evil. At that time, it will exactly fulfill the prophecy of the Lord’s descending in public ‘Behold, he comes with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him’ (Revelation 1:7). Brother, the verse you mentioned is the prophecy of the Lord’s descending in public after the hidden work ends. Now some people simply cling to their conceptions and imaginations and don’t listen to God’s voice. When other people testify to them that Almighty God is the returned Lord Jesus, they not only don’t seek or investigate, but also treat the incarnate Christ, Almighty God, as a normal man. And they deny, reject and even blaspheme, condemn, and resist Him. They will be dumbfounded when they see the Lord descends openly and publicly with a cloud. Only then will they realize that Almighty God who they’ve been rejecting and condemning is just the Lord Jesus they’ve yearned for. How could they not beat upon their breast and wail and gnash their teeth, regretful sorely? The Lord Jesus says, ‘Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away’ (Matthew 24:35). All God’s words will be fulfilled in the due sequence and time that God has appointed.”

Sister Liu’s well-founded fellowship rendered me speechless. Yes! As the Lord’s coming is a great matter, I can’t jump to conclusions carelessly and should seek and investigate humbly. But I thought that no theological study had expounded these verses like this. Influenced by the theological study, I couldn’t accept the fact that the Lord has been incarnated. I reckoned I should study the Bible and seek the Lord’s will carefully. At that thought, I had no mind to listen to them, but I waited until the end of the meeting, agitated. Sister Zhang asked whether we would like to join the meeting next time. I felt like listening to how they would explain the issue that God has been incarnated again to do the work of saving man. Since they said that, they would certainly have their knowledge and there would be mysteries that I didn’t know. Regardless of whether they were right or wrong, I should have discernment. So, I promised to continue the fellowship the next night.

I Studied the Bible at Home to Make Sure Whether the Lord Has Been Incarnated to Work

After logging off, I lost no time in taking out the Bible and referring to the notes I took in previous studies, but to no avail. I had to kneel down to pray to the Lord, telling Him the Bible study meetings in these two days and the questions in my heart. After the prayer, the word of Jehovah God occurred to me all of a sudden, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, said the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9). Right. God’s wisdom is higher than heavens and God’s work transcends man’s thoughts and conceptions. If man could fathom God’s work, where is God’s almightiness and wisdom? These days, what Sister Zhang and Sister Liu shared was based on the Bible and they clearly communicated the truth that the Lord would come in secret and in public. Why do I have to study the Bible and find theology to verify it? The Lord Jesus says, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7). This is the attitude that I should have in treating the Lord’s coming. Since they said that God has been incarnated again to do the work of salvation, there must be the truth that I could seek. I ought to talk with them calmly to get the answer. So, I sent a message to Sister Zhang, “I have a lot of questions to raise. Could you answer them for me tonight?” Sister Zhang agreed happily.

In the Third Fellowship, We Discussed the Information of the Lord’s Coming

At night, everyone was online at the pointed time. I said, “That day I heard Sister Zhang say that the Lord has become flesh again to do the work of salvation of man. It is contrary to my view that the Lord will come with Jesus’ image on a cloud. However, through your last two communications, I believe that you have a quite pure knowledge: The descending of the Son of man prophesied by the Lord Jesus means that He will be incarnated as the Son of man. You also have biblical basis for the knowledge about the Lord’s coming in secret and in public. And I can accept them. But I don’t understand why God works through incarnation. Sister Zhang said, “Let’s see what Almighty God says about it. Almighty God says, ‘Much as with the first incarnation, only the flesh of God incarnate could redeem man through His crucifixion, whereas it was not possible for the Spirit of God to be crucified as a sin offering for man. … Every time that God became flesh, it was absolutely necessary to do so. If any of the stages could have been carried out directly by the Spirit of God, He would not have endured the indignities of being incarnated’ (“The Mystery of the Incarnation (4)” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). ‘The work of God’s flesh in the Age of Grace and the Age of Kingdom, however, involves man’s corrupt disposition and his knowledge of God, and is an important and crucial part of the work of salvation. Therefore, corrupt mankind is more in need of the salvation of the incarnate God, and is more in need of the direct work of the incarnate God. Mankind needs the incarnate God to shepherd him, support him, water him, feed him, judge and chastise him, and he needs more grace and greater redemption from the incarnate God. Only God in the flesh can be the confidant of man, the shepherd of man, the very present help of man, and all of this is the necessity of incarnation today and in times past’ (“Corrupt Mankind Is More in Need of the Salvation of God Become Flesh” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). From Almighty God’s words, we can see that it is mankind’s need that God is incarnated to save them. For example, when the Lord Jesus came to redeem man, if he hadn’t been incarnated, he couldn’t have gone to the cross. Then how could he have redeemed man? If we understand why the Lord Jesus works through incarnation, it will be easier for us to understand the significance and necessity of Almighty God’s work through incarnation in the last days. We know that in the Age of Law mankind was corrupted by Satan to an extent that they couldn’t keep the law and lived in the curse and condemnation of the law and would almost be captured completely by Satan. Under that circumstance, mankind needed an eternal sin offering. So, according to their need, God was incarnated and crucified to bear man’s sin and thus man would no longer walk toward death for the lack of sin offering to atone for themselves. Moreover, in doing the redemptive work, God had to be man’s sin offering with a sinless flesh. If the Spirit worked and appeared to man from time to time, He couldn’t be crucified and become mankind’s sin offering or complete the redemptive work. Similarly, man of the last days is corrupted by Satan more deeply. They commit sins and make confession in a constant cycle and can’t extricate themselves from it, bound and restrained by sin every day. Mankind has lived under Satan’s domain thoroughly and become Satan’s embodiment. To be saved thoroughly from Satan’s domain, mankind needs the supply of God’s word and the judgment and chastisement of God’s word and needs to understand more truths, so that they can overcome Satan. Thus, it can only be achieved through the expression of words of God incarnate. Therefore, the work of God incarnate is the need of corrupt mankind and the inevitable trend of God’s work.

Through God’s words and the sister’s fellowship, I understood that man who lives in corrupt satanic disposition needs the salvation of God incarnate badly. God incarnate works and expresses words to expose man’s corruption and make man know the substance of their nature so as to solve the root of man’s sin. This is indeed the need of man and can only be done by God incarnate. Before, I thought God would come in the spiritual body. Only now do I know it is erroneous and invalid. When the Lord Jesus’ spiritual body appeared to the disciples, they didn’t recognize Him. Today, two thousand years later, if the Lord Jesus appeared with that image, could I recognize Him? I’m simply too absurd! It seems that the work of God incarnate at His return is essential.

Next, Sister Zhang read another two passages of Almighty God’s words for me, “The flesh of man has been corrupted by Satan, and most deeply blinded, and profoundly harmed. The most fundamental reason why God works personally in the flesh is because the object of His salvation is man, who is of the flesh, and because Satan also uses the flesh of man to disturb the work of God. The battle with Satan is actually the work of conquering man, and at the same time, man is also the object of God’s salvation. In this way, the work of God incarnate is essential. Satan corrupted the flesh of man, and man became the embodiment of Satan, and became the object to be defeated by God. In this way, the work of doing battle with Satan and saving mankind occurs on earth, and God must become human in order to do battle with Satan. This is work of the utmost practicality” (“Corrupt Mankind Is More in Need of the Salvation of God Become Flesh” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). “The flesh of man has been most profoundly corrupted, and it has become something which opposes God, which even openly opposes and denies the existence of God. This corrupt flesh is simply too intractable, and nothing is more difficult to deal with or change than the corrupt disposition of the flesh. Satan comes into the flesh of man to stir up disturbance, and uses the flesh of man to disturb the work of God, and impair the plan of God, and thus man has become Satan, and the enemy of God. For man to be saved, he must first be conquered. It is because of this that God rises to the challenge and comes into the flesh to do the work He intends to do, and do battle with Satan. His aim is the salvation of mankind, who has been corrupted, and the defeat and annihilation of Satan, which rebels against Him. He defeats Satan through His work of conquering man, and simultaneously saves corrupt mankind. Thus, God solves two problems at once” (“Corrupt Mankind Is More in Need of the Salvation of God Become Flesh” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). After reading God’s words, Sister Zhang fellowshiped, “Man is corrupted by Satan too deeply and completely lives under Satan’s domain. They simply pursue fame and status, enjoy fleshly comforts, seek eating, drinking and carousing, and follow the worldly trend, living for themselves and for the flesh. No one loves the truth and welcomes God’s arrival. Man’s viewpoints and outlook on life and values are totally contrary to God, incompatible with God at all. Such mankind will be destroyed by God. If God wasn’t incarnated to do the work of salvation, man would forever live under Satan’s domain and would be punished by God. The purpose of the work of God incarnate is to bestow the truth, the way, and the life upon man and have man live by the truth and break away from Satan’s influence thoroughly to be gained by Him. Only such people have license to inherit God’s promise and enter the kingdom of heaven to gain the eternal life. It can be seen that the work of God incarnate is the great love and salvation to man. …”

I said with excitement, “God’s words and your fellowship allowed me to understand that God is incarnated this time mainly to judge and purify the mankind corrupted by Satan. People of today are filled with corrupt satanic disposition. This is indeed true. When God’s work is not in line with my conceptions, the satanic nature within will direct me to deny and judge God. If God wasn’t incarnated to purify me, how could I with satanic disposition go to meet God? God is righteous and holy. If God revealed His spiritual body to us corrupt mankind who are the same as Satan, where is God’s holiness? We would be struck down by God on account of our corruption and even more of God’s holiness. It is really essential to corrupt mankind that God incarnate speaks and works. This is even more true and genuine love. Thank God for His grace of salvation.”

I Became Certain That Almighty God Is the Lord Jesus’ Second Coming

Sister Zhang and Sister Liu felt happy when seeing that I had knowledge of the work of God incarnate and was willing to accept Almighty God’s work in the last days. They talked to me: There are many mysteries concerning God’s incarnation, which can’t be communicated clearly in one or two days. Almighty God’s words have opened all the mysteries. As long as we read more of Almighty God’s words, we’ll be able to understand more truths and gain God’s salvation and perfection. I said, “Thanks be to God. I’ll read Almighty God’s words attentively and accept the watering of God’s words.” Later, through devoting time to Almighty God’s word and the online meetings gathered by brothers and sisters, I understood many aspects of truths such as the differences between God’s work and man’s work, knowing the three stages of God’s work is the path to knowing God, the differences between the Holy Spirit’s work and Satan’s work, etc. I already made certain that Almighty God is the Lord Jesus’ return.

In retrospect, I only knew to read and study the Bible in my belief. I had never sought the truth in the verses concerning the Lord’s coming. How many times have I felt confused, hesitated and lost direction, how many times have I had no way to go and been at a loss, how many times have I felt desperate and struggled in pain, how many times have I bitterly waited for the Lord to come again sooner…. Against my expectations, my Lord, my God has returned in the flesh and begun His last stage of work of saving mankind. God’s words, the testimony of God’s chosen people experiencing God’s work in the last days, and a variety of videos and gospel films of testifying about God’s work have already been made public online and proclaimed to mankind. But I, numb and obtuse, didn’t seek the truth or God’s appearing and work. I’m too ignorant! Now all the darkness in my heart has been removed and I have seen the appearing of the true light. From Almighty God’s work, I know the cause of the desolation and darkness of the church: The Holy Spirit’s work has shifted. Only if we follow the Lamb’s footsteps closely will we have true peace and joy. All the glory goes to Almighty God!

Look, The Truth Reigns Here

I am an ordinary believer in the Church of Almighty God. Exalted by God, I was assigned to fulfill hosting duty. I often had meetings with Sister Zhao, an upper-level leader of the church. From her talk in the meetings, I realized that she didn’t coordinate harmoniously with her partner in their work. They both were very arrogant, and each rejected the other’s views and wanted the obedience of the other. When they couldn’t agree on the work, they would work apart. I thought to myself, “As upper-level leaders, if they have no harmonious partnership, both living in their arrogant corrupt disposition and sticking to their own views, they won’t be able to gain the work of the Holy Spirit. Then the work they do would be unbeneficial to the church work and to the brothers and sisters’ entry into life. This is not a small matter. I must point it out and have fellowship with Sister Zhao.” But then I thought, “Sister Zhao is an upper-level leader, and I am only an ordinary sister who performs hosting duty. Even if she needs help, it shouldn’t be me but her superior. Doing my best to fulfill my hosting duty is enough.”

Just then, I saw a passage of God’s words: “In the church, you should stand My testimony and hold on to the truth. Right is right, and wrong is wrong. Don’t confuse black and white. You should fight against Satan and defeat it thoroughly, leaving it unable to rise again. Safeguard My testimony at any cost; this should be the principle of your doing things. Don’t forget” (“The Forty-first Utterance” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). From these words of God, I understood God’s will: In the church, the truth reigns. When anything incompatible with the truth happens, everyone can stand up and speak for the truth. When seeing any brother or sister reveal their corrupt disposition, everyone else can help them by fellowshiping about the truth with them. This is the duty and obligation of every one of us, and is also God’s requirement for us. God hopes that when we encounter a situation, we can stand on the right ground and practice the truth resolutely, and go all out to defend God’s work and God’s testimony. Hosting the brothers and sisters is my duty, it is also my duty and obligation to point out my leader’s shortcomings and corruption and fellowship about the truth with her in order to benefit her life and protect the church work from loss. What a Winding Path I Had Walked!

As a child of a cadre, I was raised carefully by my parents and familylived a comfortable life. My mother told me that when I was very young, a fortune teller said that I would be blessed in the future according to my auspicious time of birth. So I believed in fate and also believed that there was an Old Man in the Sky. When I grew up, one time a classmate said to me, “There is a fortune teller here. What he says is fairly accurate. We may as well go there and do fortune telling.” So, we went to have our fortunes told. I’d like to know the profession of my future husband, whether my marriage would be happy, and what my future life would be like. Nonetheless, the fortune teller did not tell me the profession of my future husband. Instead, he told me that it would be better for me to marry a man two or four years older than me, that I would have a beautiful marriage in the future, and that there would not be much hardship ahead of me, which offered me reassurance and filled my heart with great pleasure. In the twinkling of an eye, I reached the marriage age. Instead of pairing off with a man two or four years older than me, I married one five years older.

After marriage, my husband and I lived a happy life, and his business thrived, making him the richest man among the locals. I thought: That fortune teller is really accurate. Though I did not marry someone two or four years apart in age, my marriage is pretty satisfying. Carried away by this happiness, I believed that I would grow old with my husband and live in bliss for the rest of my life. Just when I was immersed in happiness, however, something unfortunate came upon me. My husband had an affair due to constant business travel and actually asked for a divorce, which led to the collapse of my sweet family. Faced with the lavishly decorated house daily, I felt a void in my heart, and waves of desolation swept over me. I was afflicted with depression and pain, but could not find a person to pour out my heart. I longed deep down to meet a Savior to deliver me from the abyss of misery. Continue reading

Listen! Who Is Speaking?

Being a preacher of the Three Grades of Servants Church, I felt quite helpless when seeing that fewer and fewer brothers and sisters came to the meetings. I had prayed to the Lord countless times, asking Him to strengthen the faith of the brothers and sisters, but the desolation of our church didn’t change at all, and even I myself was mired in weakness. … One day, when I was doing the housework, two coworkers of our church, Brother Wang and Brother Lin, came. Seeing them, I was happy and let them into the room. After an exchange of greetings, Brother Wang said, “Sister Zhou, how is your spiritual condition?” I gave a sigh and said, “Don’t mention it. I’m weak and have nothing to preach in the meetings. The brothers and sisters are also passive and weak, and there are only a few left in the church.” At this, they looked at each other, and Brother Lin said, “Sister Zhou, do you know why we are no longer able to preach, and why there are only a few believers left in the church?” Hearing that, I thought, “This is just what I want to know. Do they know the reason?” So I asked quickly, “Why?” Brother Wang said, “Because the Lord has come back and become flesh for the second time to speak and carry out new work. Many brothers and sisters have accepted the work of God in the Age of Kingdom and lived in the stream of the present work of the Holy Spirit, and their condition is growing better. We also should hurry up and follow God’s footsteps!” His words reminded me of what the senior coworkers had said, “If anyone preaches that God has carried out new work and expressed new words, that is departure from the Bible. Departure from the Bible is not belief in God, but is deviation from the Lord’s way, and is apostasy.” As I thought of that, I said gravely, “Haven’t the senior coworkers often taught us that departure from the Bible is not the belief in God? You should have remembered it. Departure from the Bible is departure from the Lord’s way. You are so bold to preach that to me.” As I spoke, I got up. At the time, Brother Lin said, “Take it easy, Sister Zhou. We know you are a true believer of God and pursue hard, so we preach God’s new work to you. You should examine it carefully, and not miss this opportunity! …” I raised my hand before he finished his speaking, and said, “Stop! Stop! Don’t talk about it anymore. Apart from the Bible, I believe in nothing. You gave up the Lord’s way, but I will hold it fast.” Seeing me obstinately refuse to listen, they had to leave. After that, they came a few times, but I gave them the cold shoulder.

One day, Brother Wang and Brother Lin came with two sisters. At that time, I was in the room picking over beans, and my husband was working outside the house. He let them into the room. At the sight of them, my heart skipped a beat, “You came again and also brought along two helpers.” They entered the room and greeted me. Then they began to fellowship with my husband. I was dreadfully worried, thinking, “What they preach departs from the Bible. I must keep watch over my husband lest he be tempted by them.” I wanted to drive them away, but I was afraid that my husband would get annoyed, so I had to keep silent. I didn’t take in anything they preached, while he kept nodding his head, saying, “Yes, it’s right. That’s it. That’s it. It sounds reasonable. What you are saying is great!” Seeing him so attracted by their preaching, I got furious and said sarcastically with my finger pointing at him, “Is it really right? How much have you read the Bible? How many days have you believed in God? Did you rely on God? You said ‘right, right, right;’ how much have you understood?” My rude words and manner brought the room into complete silence. They looked at one another, and my husband said to me at once, “Knock it off! Let’s listen first. It is good for us. How could you know whether it is right or not without hearing it?” Knowing that I couldn’t stop him, I moved the beans back and forth angrily to make noises, thinking in a fit of pique, “Want to listen! I won’t let you hear anything. I must disturb you!” However, my act didn’t disturb my husband from hearing their fellowship at all, and instead, he talked with them happily while listening. After some time, my husband said to me joyfully, “Xiaoli, God has truly come back! The words in this book are personally spoken by God. They are so wonderful! Xiaoli, go and prepare the dinner.” I cast him an angry look and said, “You cook if you like. I have no time.” Later, my husband and Brother Lin cooked the dinner. After the meal, they gave him a book, some tapes, and a hymn book, and then left. I couldn’t bear it anymore and said to my husband, “The senior coworkers said many times that believers in God can’t depart from the Bible. Departure from the Bible is not the belief in God. Have you forgotten it? You have no stand at all!” But my husband said calmly, “What they preached doesn’t depart from the Bible but goes higher on the basis of the Bible. And moreover, God’s new work they preached has fulfilled the words in the Bible. As you see, there are only a few people left in our church. You also need to investigate it quickly.” Hearing his words, I responded crossly, “What do you know? Departure from the Bible means betraying God. You don’t hold on to the Bible, but I will keep to it.”

the-word-appears-in-the-flesh

From then on, every day my husband would read the book given by Brother Lin whenever he had time. One early morning, at about three o’clock, my husband got up and began to read the book. I, half awake, heard him reading: “… could it be that you have forgotten…? Have you really forgotten…?” (“How Peter Came to Know Jesus” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). I was annoyed at his reading aloud, thinking, “You got up so early and have disturbed my sleep!” After a little while, I dimly heard: “… because before Jesus was crucified He had said to him: ‘I am not of this world, and you too are not of this world” (“How Peter Came to Know Jesus” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). “It’s so strange that this book mentions the Lord Jesus! Did I mishear? I thought. Then I clearly heard: “… have you forgotten? … have you forgotten?” (“How Peter Came to Know Jesus” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). At that moment, my heart was moved, and I couldn’t get back to sleep. I said to myself, “Who has said that? O God, is it You who is speaking to me? These words seem to be said to me by You. How gentle they are!” And then I thought, “I must get up quickly to cook the meal, and after breakfast I will read that book and see what it says about and whether it departs from the Bible.”

Having finished the breakfast, my husband went to read the book. I thought, “Why didn’t he ask me to read it together with him?” I stood at the door for quite a while, but he immersed himself in the book and didn’t notice me at all. I walked in the kitchen back and forth restlessly, anxious to see what was written in the book. I looked into the room, and he was still absorbed in reading the book. I really wanted to go into the room and read that book with him. But I thought to myself, “I have refused the gospel preached by the brothers and sisters many times. If I ask him to let me read the book, would he rebuke me? If so, how embarrassed I would be!” At the thought of that, I pulled my head backward. I paced up and down in the outer room slowly, and when I remembered the words my husband read in the early morning, I grew more anxious, thinking, “I must go in to see what this book talks about.” So I walked to the door, but retreated again. Like a cat on hot bricks, I didn’t know what to do. At last, I steeled myself and thought, “Well, if he rebukes me, let him do it. I shouldn’t have rejected the gospel so stubbornly and have turned a deaf ear to his advice.” I got up the courage and walked into the room, and said embarrassedly, “Let’s read together!” He raised his head, showing a surprised look, and said joyfully, “OK! Come! Let’s read it together.” I was much moved, as he didn’t rebuke me as I had expected. My uneasiness now vanished. I was so happy and began to read the book with my husband. But what we read were not the words I overheard in the early morning. Just then my husband went out, and I hurriedly turned the pages back. I found the very words I wanted! I read these words aloud with joy:the-lord-jesus-appears-to-peter-when-he-is-in-agony_Peter was greatly encouraged by Jesus’ words, because before Jesus was crucified He had said to him: ‘I am not of this world, and you too are not of this world.’ Later, when Peter reached a point of great pain, Jesus reminded him: ‘Peter, have you forgotten? I am not of the world, and it was only for My work that I departed earlier. You too are not of the world, have you forgotten? I have told you twice, do you not remember?’ Peter heard Him and said: ‘I have not forgotten!’ Jesus then said: ‘You once spent a happy time gathered with Me in heaven and a period of time by My side. You miss Me, and I miss you. Although the creatures are not worth mentioning in My eyes, how can I not love one who is innocent and lovable? Have you forgotten My promise? You must accept My commission on earth; you must fulfill the task that I entrusted you with. One day I will certainly lead you to be by My side’” (“How Peter Came to Know Jesus” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). I read these words over and over again. The more I read, the more I felt these words didn’t deviate from the Bible. I wondered why the senior leaders said the message was departure from the Bible that God has come back and done new work and spoken new words, and why they said that departure from the Bible meant departure from the Lord’s way. I prayed in my heart, “O God, what is all this about? May You enlighten me and guide me, so that I can understand Your will.”

Afterward, I read these words of Almighty God: “For many years, people’s traditional means of belief (that of Christianity, one of the world’s three major religions) has been to read the Bible; departure from the Bible is not the belief in the Lord, departure from the Bible is an evil cult, and heresy, and even when people read other books, the foundation of these books must be the explanation of the Bible. Which is to say, if you say you believe in the Lord, then you must read the Bible, you must eat and drink the Bible, and outside the Bible you must not worship any book that does not involve the Bible. If you do, then you are betraying God. From the time when there was the Bible, people’s belief in the Lord has been the belief in the Bible. Instead of saying people believe in the Lord, it is better to say they believe in the Bible; rather than saying they have begun reading the Bible, it is better to say they have begun believing in the Bible; and rather than saying they have returned before the Lord, it would be better to say they have returned before the Bible. In this way, people worship the Bible as if it were God, as if it were their lifeblood and losing it would be the same as losing their life. People see the Bible as being as high as God, and there are even those who see it as higher than God” (“Concerning the Bible (1)” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). God’s words touched my heart. “Am I not like what God’s words say? Looking back, I have been holding to the Bible like this since I began to believe in the Lord. I see the Bible as my lifeblood. Every time after I read it, I would put it on a high place so that my children couldn’t touch it. I consider it above everything else, and even think that departure from the Bible means betraying the Lord. But, is it wrong?” I read on with a seeking heart, from “Concerning the Bible (1)” to “Concerning the Bible (4).” The more I read, the more I became enlightened. Almighty God’s words made me completely understand this: Actually, the Bible is nothing more than a historical record of God’s work, a testament of the previous two stages of God’s work. The Old Testament records Jehovah’s work from the time of creation until the end of the Age of Law, and the New Testament records the Lord Jesus’ work in the Age of Grace. God’s work is always new and never old, and is ceaselessly progressing onward. Today God has done a new stage of work outside the Bible—the work of the Age of Kingdom, which is the last stage of work of God’s salvation for man. These three stages of work are done by one God. Then I thought, “That’s right! God is so almighty, so wise; it is impossible for Him to have just done the limited work recorded in the Bible. Besides, I have personally seen from Almighty God’s word that God’s word and work in the last days do not deny the Bible but go higher and deeper on the basis of the work of the Age of Law and the Age of Grace recorded in the Bible, and are in line with man’s actual needs all the more.” God’s word says: “You need to understand why you can no longer read the Bible, why there is another work outside the Bible, and why God has begun another, greater work outside the Bible, rather than seeking a newer, more detailed practice within its pages—you must understand all of these things. You need to understand how the old and the new work differ. Though you don’t read the Bible, you have to be able to analyze it. Otherwise you will still worship the Bible, and thus you can hardly enter into the new work and achieve change. Now that there is a higher way, why study the obsolete and lower way? Now that there is new word, new work, why live in the old history record? The new word can supply you; it shows that this is new work. The old records cannot sate you, cannot satisfy your present desires; it proves that they are history, not today’s work. The highest way is the newest work. And when there is new work, the old way, no matter how high, becomes history to be recalled by men. No matter how valuable it is as a reference, it is still an old way. The old way is history, even if recorded in the holy book. The new way is reality, even if it is not mentioned on a single page of the holy book. This way can save you and transform you, for it is the work of the Holy Spirit” (“Concerning the Bible (1)” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). After reading these words, I suddenly came to understand why I grew increasingly passive in spirit although I held to the Bible all the time and why the brothers and sisters became ever weak and even stopped attending the meetings although they didn’t depart from the Bible under my leading; why those brothers and sisters who accepted the kingdom gospel of Almighty God were, however, full of faith, and no matter how I treated them, they were not disheartened but kept coming to preach the gospel to me again and again. The reason was this: I have held to the old way and have long lost the work of the Holy Spirit; whereas the brothers and sisters of the Church of Almighty God are guided by the new way and watered by God’s new words, thereby gaining the work of the Holy Spirit. This is how the new way and the old way differ.

At that time, I had a mixed feeling of happiness and sadness. I was happy because although I was so disobedient and resistant to Him, God not only didn’t abandon me but also allowed me to hear His voice through a special way—letting my husband read His words to me. That was really God’s love for me. And I was sad because every time the brothers and sisters came from afar to preach the gospel to me, I ignored them, and I even spoke cold words when they fellowshiped with my husband. Thinking of this, I felt remorseful and couldn’t help shedding tears. I knelt down and prayed to God, “O Almighty God, I know I am wrong. I’m willing to give up the Bible, keep up with Your new work, and listen to Your words in the new age. I won’t oppose You and ruin my life because of clinging to my notions and imaginations. O God, I’m resolved to cooperate with You and bring those true believers in You to Your house, so as to make up for my indebtedness to You. Thank God! May all the glory be to Almighty God!”

Deliverance From the Desperate Straits

In the early 1980s, I was in my 30s and worked in a construction company. As I was young, strong, and honest and had a perfect mastery of building technology, I believed that I would surely be able to accomplish something in the company and live a life better than others’ as long as I was conscientious in my work. I worked in this company for several years, but I was puzzled that although my behavior was faultless and my technical level was unquestionable, my efforts were not approved, for my grade on the pay scale had always been Grade III, which was far from Grade VI, the top of the pay scale of the company for the staff. Seeing my junior workmates inferior to me in technical level were all promoted on the pay scale, I felt so confused. Later, a workmate who was on good terms with me gave me advice with a smile, “The most important thing for you to do in this company is to have a close relationship with the manager. At least you should show regard for him at every festival and at New Year.” When I knew this, I felt very annoyed, for I disliked those bootlickers and detested those who didn’t labor but could be promoted on the pay scale by fair means or foul. But in order to establish myself in the company, I had to adapt to this hidden rule. At New Year, I showed my “regard” for the manager of our company, and he immediately promoted me to foreman.

After I became a foreman, I took the responsibility of the job more seriously. I exercised a close supervision over and gave strict instruction in the building of the projects and the construction quality, send-giftand cared for the safety of the team members all the time. My behavior and technical instruction won the approval of all the team members. So I thought that the company would approve of me and put me in an important position because of my endeavors. However, the reality countered my conception, for the reappointment of a person as foreman in the company was determined by the value of the gift that he sent to the manager. So, as I had experienced such a rule of survival last time, I complied with it again in order to continue to survive in the company. I gained a profound understanding of the real meaning of the phase “survival of the fittest in natural selection.” Continue reading
